impact

Responsible water usage is a global challenge: It is one of our most precious and most endangered natural resources. According to UNESCO, about 80% of the world’s population lives in areas with high water security threats. Global demand is predicted to increase significantly over the coming decades and forecasts by UNESCO say that by 2030 the world will face a 40% global water deficit. The effects of climate change will further enlarge the problem, resulting in increasing discrepancies between water supply and demand.

KNOW HOW - STEPS TO SAVE WATER

  • Analyse and evaluate your consumption. Your utility company can help you get started. Hunt for areas of water wastage and start with simple ways to save water, such as fixing leaky taps and pipes or prepping and cleaning with caution, e.g. running the dishwasher only when it is full.
  • Once you have managed the simple day-to-day measures to save water, you can take the next step and invest in good equipment such as dishwashers with an energy mark or low-flow taps.
  • There are also advanced ways in which you can save water. For example, by purchasing and offering more products with a low impact on water resources, such as seasonal fruit and vegetables.
  • Once you have taken the first steps to save water, check the change in water consumption and keep track of it.
  • Publicise what you are doing and make your progress visible to your staff and customers. For example, put up signs in the bathroom or on the menu. It can motivate them to continue saving water and take the message home with them, making your impact go even further!
